World Cup Frenzy

With the semi finals being held tomorrow, the world cup frenzy is at an all time high. I’m not exactly a fan of football, but it’s kind of hard to ignore it when everyone on your Facebook and Twitter are talking about it.

The teams that are still in the running for the World Cup are Argentina, Brazil, Netherlands and Germany. While the men support their teams in the usual ways, sporting jerseys and face paint, the women supporters have kicked it up a notch, by showing off what their mama’s gave them.

But the best part has to be the crazy fans. They are easy to spot, usually sporting a costume or full on face paint. Here are the wackiest fans spotted at the World Cup this time.

How to click the perfect #selfie

I’m not the only person who spends an outrageous amount of time trying to take a good “selfie”. The perfect #selfie isn’t as elusive as you think it is. Here are some tips that will definitely help you!

  • Lighting – Good lighting is essential for any good selfie. Natural light is the best but you can make do with any good source of lighting. The light source should be in front of you than behind.

  •  Angles – The angle matters. Whether it’s the angle of your face, the angle of the camera or the angle at which the light hits. Find the good side of your face and work it for the camera. Holding up the camera a bit higher than the level of your face creates a pleasing angle.

  • Mood – Selfies are fun and light hearted, so don’t be serious. Try pulling a face, act silly or dorky. It’s all good fun. Take cue from supermodel Cara Delevingne, whose selfies are always enjoyable.

  • Background – An interesting background for your selfie will always get you more likes. While it’s fun taking a #MirrorSelfie, avoid places like restrooms. Sure the lighting is good, but having a toilet in the background is never classy.

Do’s and Don’ts Before the Big Day

DO’s

  • Stay true to yourself – When it comes to make up, hair and the wedding dress, keep it classic and elegant. The idea is look beautiful while still looking like yourself.

  • Prepare a small bag with essentials – This bag is going to be your lifesaver on the big day. Stash it with make up for touch ups, like lip gloss, powder, waterproof mascara and anything else you might need.

  • Rehearsals – I’m not talking about only the wedding rehearsal, but rehearsals with the photographer, makeup and hair. Getting a trial makeup and hair look done before the wedding prevents any unwanted surprises. It also gives you a chance to change certain aspects of the hair or makeup.

  • Take dance classes – This one is a no brainer. Unless both you and your fiance have some training in Ballroom dancing, you can’t skip this step. Dance classes are fun and you learn something new as well.

  • Eat – You have to eat. Don’t think of skipping any meals, you’ll need the energy. You don’t want to faint and cause a scene.

Dos-and-Donts-List

DONT’s

  • Be adventurous and try out new products – Stick to your normal routine. Don’t try out any new products or facials in the days leading up to your wedding. Spray tans included.

  • Spend all your savings – Your wedding day is undoubtedly the most special day of your life, but it’s also the beginning of your life with someone else. You can have a over the top wedding, but you cannot spend all your savings on one momentous occasion.

  • Buy a dress in a smaller size than yours – You’ve practically had years to lose those pounds, if you couldn’t do it then, why is it possible with a wedding hanging over your head? Buy the dress in your size and in a silhouette that flatters your body shape.

  • Be a Bridezilla – Things go wrong, doesn’t matter how much planning you do. Be patient and kind. Being angry and demanding doesn’t help anyone.

  • Leave the itinerary to the last minute – The itinerary is the only thing that keeps everything and everyone on schedule. Make sure you have it done and dusted ahead of time.

Practicing Yoga At Home

christy turlington yoga

After a long day at the office, sometimes by the time I get home  the last thing I want is to get back in the car and drive over anywhere for a yoga session. So recently I bought myself a nice yoga mat and decided to try yoga youtube workouts in the privacy of my own home, so I can still work out and stretch without having to leave the house and the results have been amazing. Here are some tips to consider in order to prevent injury and maximize the experience:

1) Create  your own space

Set aside a space in your room making sure  it is free from furniture and is clean and serene. I like to light a candle to create a peaceful atmosphere and I have a nice playlist of soothing music from Spirit Vogage and Shiva Rea has  compiled a collection of trance music suitable for Vinyasa flow. Keep the lighting low and relaxed.

2) Prevent Injury

Don’t force postures. Anything that is advanced is much better to do around a teacher who can watch you, but at home dont compete with your body -Be present, warm up, fully get into the poses you know…that is how an at home practice should be. Difficult poses should be in a class, where your teacher can make a safe environment for you.

3) Choose your youtube yoga style ( here are some of my favorite):

Hatha Yoga at Home http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAA-SZ05zSg

Weightloss Yoga with Tara Stiles

Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown1

4) Research!

The internet is a wealth of resources for an at home yoga practice.  Itunes has many yoga podcasts and  I Yoga Life has many videos  for a variety of levels.

7) Meditate

Sit with a straight spine, close your eyes and focus on your breath. The benefits of meditation include everything from lowering your blood pressure to improving your mood.

Guess Campaigns

Guess has always had iconic campaigns typically shot by one of our favorite photographers, Ellen Von Unwerth who knows how to capture a woman’s sensuality and playfulness without going overboard and vulgar. Back in the 90′s landing a Guess campaign meant a model had reached her iconic status which can be compared to landing the Victoria Secret Angel spot for their annual and highly celebrated fashion show today. Probably the two most memorable ads were shot with super model Claudia Schiffer and Ana Nicole Smith, but our favorite were the color ones with models Megan Ewing and Adriana LIma.

The  recent superstar to be chosen to represent Guess is former Miss World and Bollywood actress  Priyanka Chopra who reminds us of a cross of the classic beauty of Sofia Loren and Eva Mendes.
