Living in Dubai, I have lost count of how many times I got sunburnt. The summer is amazing for those who love to go to the beach and tan but sometimes the heat gets out of control and you get burnt. Or you fall asleep on the beach and get burnt. Well that’s how it usually happens to me.
Prevention is better than any cure. Make sure that you apply adequate amounts of sunscreen. It helps not only in preventing sunburns, it is also known for preventing ageing due to sun exposure.
Here’s a few remedies than help in treating sunburnt skin
Mix a couple tablespoons of baking soda with cool bath water and have a soak. Make sure that you don’t soak for more than 15 minutes as it can excessively dry out your skin. Once you get out, air dry yourself without using a towel. Don’t wipe off the baking soda on your skin.
Using fresh aloe vera leaves is the best for sunburns. Cut open the leaves in half and apply the gel like liquid onto sunburnt areas of your skin. Apply as often as 5 times a day until the sunburn is gone.
Cut into cubes and add them to the blender. blend until they are in a semi liquid form. Apply the potatoes directly on the skin where it is burnt. Once the potatoes dry up on your skin, go ahead and take a cool shower to wash them off.
- Make sure you drink lots of water as it speeds up the healing process.
- Moisturise. Your skin is dehydrated from all that time in the sun.
- Avoid using soaps, loofahs or anything that can irritate your sunburnt skin. You can use mild soaps and wash cloths.
